To be clear, personal taste and the freedom to express it is a wonderful gift.  Why be like somebody else when you can be uniquely you?  Right?  So, why shouldn’t your environment, especially your home, be a reflection of that unique you?

That being said, from time to time, as I’m sourcing for clients, I come across decor which leaves me, “Mr. You-Do-You”, scratching my head.

For example, I came across this lovely lamp, the other day, on a shopping trip to my Home (Goods)-Away-From-Home.  Now…. it is true, there is something for everyone.  But I found myself asking, who in or around McHenry, Illinois would clammer to have one (they actually had a pair!!!!) of these in their home?

I’m actually not hating on the lamp base as much as I am the shade.  Bougie chic with a mid-mod vibe meets fringy, funeral parlor lampshade…. Where would a lamp like this really belong?  It’s not like you can play it down, even in some eclectic setting.  Nothing like a lamp that’s turned on to say LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!

Maybe I’m way off or have missed a trend.  But I’m thinking, for me, this falls into the pile of “perfectly awful” finds, which I also promised to share from time to time.

As an alternative to this mauve monstrosity, if I were to venture down the path of fowl lighting (pun intended), I’d probably trend more in this direction; the Fairlee Flamingo Table Lamp from Wayfair is something different you would have an easier time working with and around.  I’d have fun finding just the right spot for it and for just the right client!

As with the former, warm gold anything is still relevant in decorative metals and this lamp would definitely introduce whimsy, uniqueness and be a conversation starter!

Any who… if you too saw the swan lamps and had to have them, I’d love to see what you were able to do with them.  There is truly something for everyone!
