Sometimes you just know when it’s time for an update. Whether it’s the fabric on a chair or the sags in a sofa cushion, you know it’s time to spend a little of your well-earned money to refeather your nest.
We had a great time this week putting a few new feathers on this living room in Elk Grove Village, IL. We began a few months ago with a consultation to plan our attack which began with specifying a fresh coat of paint for a slightly warmer canvas for the space.
While the painting was completed, the hunt began for new furniture. First, we ordered a new, scale-appropriate sofa in a neutral twill fabric from Penny Mustard to fit the smaller (by today’s standards) living space. Soon after, we ran across a swoop arm chair in a complimentary fabric at HomeGoods. And after going back and forth, we finally decided on a fantastic oval-back occasional chair from Wayfair with black legs and a leopard print upholstery. A pair of new scale-appropriate pedestal tables flank the sofa while a new stacked-trunk console works perfectly as a sofa table. The clients existing screen, coffee table and tv console rounded out furnishings. With the seating and secondary pieces complete, we turned our attention to window fashions in desperate need of an update. The drippy, droopy swagged panels and valance disappeared in favor of sleek, cordless cellular shades softened by stationary panels in a shimmery chartreuse green. Accents of fresh blue and green follow thru in the new mosaic artwork, accent pillows and accessories while a new area rug anchors the entire angled group.
Needless to say, a space that felt a little tired and underwhelming now begs for visitors and really matches the homeowner’s wonderful personality.
