Personality… we all have one, for better or for worse! Where better then to express yours than in your home’s decor? Your home is likely one of the only places on Earth that is uniquely yours, a place to express your personal style and create an atmosphere that feels truly customized for you. When it comes to home decor, adding personal touches is one of the best opportunities to truly let your ‘freak flag fly’!
While walls, flooring and large pieces of furniture are important, the real magic happens when you layer in accessories. They’re the finishing touches that can turn a simple room into something extraordinary! And when you add a little whimsy to the mix, your space becomes a playful reflection of your personality.
Part of our responsibilities, as decorators, is to find inspiration to help customize our designs for each client. The goal, of course, is to create individualized spaces which express our client’s personality which can sometimes be in stark contrast to our own.
I recently came across this adorable, booted duck while shopping for accessories. And, I immediately knew exactly which project needed this perfect touch of whimsy!
The home, in question, was situated on a local river. So, incorporating accents which spoke to the home’s beautiful, waterfront location was a no-brainer. More importantly, I felt it kind of captured my client’s ‘laissez-faire’ persona making it the perfect, playful addition.
Standing at 20″ tall and made of natural, un-painted wood made it easy to incorporate almost anywhere in the home and at around $30, the price made it very budget-friendly. After trying a couple different locations, we decided to incorporate this special touch into a fairly prominent vignette we created on the seldom-used, bay window seat in the Living Room.
I wish I could provide a link for purchase. Alas, this treasure was a HomeGoods find and so, difficult to predictably find again. However, a quick Google Lens search revealed the same or similar options online.
As you can see, whimsical touches can transform any room into a fun, inspiring, and welcoming environment. And that makes this booted duck one of Jeff’s Favorite Finds.
Whether it’s a quirky lamp, an unusual piece of art, or a booted duck, adding whimsy is all about bringing in elements that surprise and delight. Quite often, they become conversation starters and give your guests a peek into your own personal brand of ‘insanity’.
