Some room transformations are more impressive than others. While some only need a modest budget and improvements, others are more involved and costly.
Last week, we finished a large project in Cary, IL that has been in the works since last February. What started with a color consultation for the entire home and subsequent painting ended with a full home redesign.
My clients had already decided to replace some of the carpet in the home with hardwood flooring. So in addition to painting almost every room, the hardwood floor was installed.
After the painting and flooring mess was cleaned up, the owners invested in a large entertainment center for the family room and then decided to invite me back to discuss what we could do to put the finishing touches on the already impressive start to transforming their home. While we decided to focus most of our energy and budget on the first-floor living areas, the master bedroom and bath were also priorities if time and budget permitted.
As it turns out, with some creative shopping, planning and a slightly larger budget, we were able to stretch and complete both floors including finishing touches to the kids’ rooms, guest room and hall bath.
While we were planning on reusing as much furniture as possible, we needed to replace the older family room furniture to better suit the space and compliment the new wall unit. While we waited for that furniture to be manufactured and delivered, we turned our attention to all the other things that make a house a home. Accent tables, chairs, window treatments, art, accessories, bedding and more were added to create the layers
Having lived in an unfinished space for six years as they focused on starting a family and now that the kids are old enough to have nicer things, it was time for this fantastic couple to have the space they’d dreamed of all along. Before & After pics only capture a portion of the change in look and feel in this space. With looks of disbelief, my excited clients toured from room to room during the reveal.
I told my clients their lives were about to change when I pulled up with my crew that morning. And, after a long, long day touching every room in the house, I think they were in complete agreement. While they’d gotten used to living in a house, they’d neglected the finishing touches. At the end of the day, the best comment from my clients summarized our efforts by saying “you gave us a home”!
The only thing standing between you and the home of your dreams is you. If you’ve been putting off finishing your spaces, maybe it’s time for you to let us “give you a home” as well.
