Let’s be honest.  Few homes are spic-n-span spotless every minute of every day.  Nor is everything always in its proper place.  (It’s called life!)  Unless you have a herd of minions to do the upkeep, no one is going to live in a “perfect” home all the time.  While admirable, a perfectly clean & decorated home is a very elusive target, one we usually come closest to hitting when we know outsiders will be looking.  I like to call this state of decorating nirvana, “party pretty”.

Creating thoughtful, beautifully-styled, perfect spaces comes with the understanding they probably won’t stay that way forever.  Whether from everyday use, kids run amuck, four-legged friends or simply moving things to clean and not getting them back quite right, the photo-worthy rooms we leave inevitably change over time.

We do our best to create designer spaces which, not only look great, but also function for those using and enjoying them.  Keeping in mind, too much design can inhibit proper function just as much as too much  functionality can limit good design.  Finding the happy medium between the two helps insure long term enjoyment while also insuring the space will stay the way we left it as long as possible.

Below are a couple examples of party pretty projects we’ve recently finished:

First, a family of four with two young girls (and repeat clients) in Western Springs asked us back to put finishing touches on their new, larger home after their recent move.  We’d helped them decorate and style their previous home.  Now, they wanted help re-incorporating as many of those elements as possible while adding where needed to finish their new home.

The second family in Oakwood Hills asked for help with new paint colors, redecorating and reinventing several of their spaces with a finished look representative of this latest chapter in their lives.  With teenage & young adult children soon to leave the nest, they felt it was finally time to decorate to their adult taste without the same considerations they’d had to make with younger kids.

Decorating a home for the way people live, not the way they wished they lived, is more important than creating beautiful spaces that don’t work for the families living in them.

And while the rooms may not stay party pretty for very long, the stage has been set, the standard created and the owners (often with the help of photos) can easily recreate their designer look when it’s time to entertain.  In the meantime, family friendly is the rule of the day!

Live your best life in a space that is as perfect as you want or care to for it to be!  And if you need help creating party pretty designs in your own home, you know where to find us!
