My favorite part of any job is the family reveal. While I enjoy pulling everything together and searching for those perfect elements to bring a client’s room(s) to life, there’s nothing better than seeing the looks on faces and hearing the expletives of joy when the family first sees their “new & improved” surroundings.
Just this past week, we finished a several month long decorating project for a client in Palatine that pretty much had us starting from scratch. Our primary focus was the great room which needed some wood work, new paint, furniture, rug, art, accessories and window treatments. The transformation spilled over into the dining room as well which needed a refresh with an area rug, artwork, window treatments and accessories.
Since it’s easier and faster to work without interruptions, I prefer to do jobs while my clients are at work or busy with errands etc.. That way when they come home, all of the ugliness of the work is cleared away and they can get the full “while you were out” effect of their party-ready spaces.
This particular reveal came at the end of the work day when everyone came home from work and school. The smiles, wows and laughter from the adults were punctuated when my client’s young son commented, “We live in a mansion!” Needless to say, we all got a laugh from that one. Sometimes your most honest critique comes from the youngest members of the family. I’d say “mansion” meant we did good, at least in his eyes!
The pictures speak for themselves.
Bringing in new family room furniture gave the room the anchor pieces needed to layer the softer, more “feminine” elements that bring a space to life. The entire family has since raved about their new look and are already sharing it with friends and family.
