Watching the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio is inspiring.  The hard work and determination of the athletes is nothing short of amazing.  Of course the reward is worth it!  I mean, who couldn’t use a little more gold in their lives?  Running, jumping, swimming and diving are great ways to go for gold.  But, if years of training and discipline aren’t for you, don’t let that keep you from going for gold.  Why not decorate with it?  We did just that in this living room/dining room makeover in Huntley, Illinois.

Having already decorated the family room and master bedroom in the home, Phase 2 of this decorating project for our clients included the living and dining room in their new construction home.

As you can see from the photos, the Living Room got a full makeover.  None of the existing furniture was reused.  Instead, we brought in all new furniture, art, accessories and window treatments to completely restyle the space.  Silver foil lamps added much needed lighting in the space.  Repeating hints of teal brought the family room and kitchen colors into the living room while punches of gold are the primary wow color in this space.  An 8′ round cream shag rug helps anchor and brighten the space.  Matching cream color panels soften and finish the windows.

Reusing the vintage dining table and reupholstered chairs saved us a ton of money in room that is seldom used these days.  We replaced the builder light fixture with a new oil rubbed bronze chandelier.  Hanging a large mirror slightly higher than normal helps expand the space while ensuring diners don’t have to watch themselves eat.  The same cream panels on the windows from the adjoining living room help unify the two spaces.  Finally, a runner and tablescape of glass candlesticks and flameless cathedral candles completes the look.
